America's Greatest Startup Workplaces 2026 Methodology Overview
America’s Greatest Startup Workplaces 2026 recognizes the best startups in the United States that demonstrate excellence in workplace culture, sustainable business growth, and long-term potential. The comprehensive study evaluates companies by combining employee satisfaction metrics, operational growth indicators, customer engagement, and financial strength data.
More than 26,000 startups were considered in an initial analysis. Multiple eligibility criteria, including employee headcount, headquarters location and founding year, were applied to identify more than 2,000 startups with at least 50 employees that were founded on or after 2020. Startups established through mergers, acquisitions, or rebranding initiatives were excluded from consideration.
The study analyzed more than 10 key performance indicators (KPIs) across employee satisfaction, operational growth, financial performance, and customer engagement. These metrics were used to evaluate each startup’s workplace environment, scalability, revenue potential, market traction, investor confidence, and overall growth outlook.
As part of the evaluation process, Critical Mention, the media monitoring platform by Onclusive, was used to review whether startups were associated with adverse media coverage or relevant public records within the two-year assessment period (June 15, 2024 – June 15, 2026). This comprehensive screening examined company involvement in significant issues, including regulatory penalties and workplace misconduct. Companies identified as having significant involvement in such issues were excluded from the final ranking.
A proprietary scoring model was applied to calculate each company’s overall score. The highest-scoring companies were officially recognized by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights as America’s Greatest Startup Workplaces 2026.
The exclusion of a company from this list is not a reflection of its performance and is not disputed.

Companies are evaluated based on their workplace performance across a broad set of categories and dimensions. These include, but are not limited to, veterans, women, LGBTQ+, leadership, culture, belonging and community, as well as compensation and benefits. Not all evaluated dimensions result in the publication of a dedicated ranking. The selection of rankings to be published is made at the discretion of the editorial team, based on editorial considerations.
