America's Greatest Companies 2026 Methodology Overview

America’s Greatest Companies 2026 recognizes the nation’s leading publicly listed corporations through an in-depth analysis of their performance across four key pillars of excellence: financial strength and market performance, performance as an American employer, innovation, and environmental sustainability.

To be eligible for evaluation, a company was required to:

  • Be publicly listed on a U.S. stock exchange
  • Maintain its main office in the United States
  • Report more than $75 million in revenue for fiscal year 2025

Approximately 4,300 companies were initially reviewed, of which approximately 2,800 met the eligibility and data-availability requirements for further evaluation.

Eligible companies were assessed across four primary categories:

Stock & Financial Performance: This category evaluated each company’s financial stability, growth, profitability, shareholder value creation, fiscal responsibility, and investment in future growth. The analysis incorporated indicators such as investor returns, dividend payouts, revenue and EBITDA growth, capital expenditure growth, corporate income taxes paid, and investment in research and development.

American Workforce Performance: Employee satisfaction and workplace performance were assessed 10 key drivers of workplace satisfaction.  The evaluation incorporated more than 2.7 million company reviews from over 179,000 U.S. employees, third-party workforce data from HR analytics platform Aniline, and desk research.

Innovation: Contributions to technological and scientific advancement were measured through research and development investment, intangible-asset growth, patent activity, patent citations, research citations, patent-family size, and the diversity of technologies represented within each company’s intellectual-property portfolio.

Sustainability Performance: Environmental sustainability was evaluated using multiple independent third-party ratings, benchmarks, and assessments.

The comprehensive analysis of each company across the four performance categories was supplemented by a qualitative validation review that included a thorough screening of public records and media coverage from the past 24 months to ensure the integrity and real-world relevance of the rankings.

Using a proprietary scoring model, the results across all four performance categories were combined and reviewed for plausibility by the Plant-A Insights Group research team and Newsweek’s rankings team. The 650 highest-scoring companies were recognized by Plant-A Insights Group and Newsweek as America’s Greatest Companies 2026.

The absence of a company from the ranking does not reflect on its quality or performance, which is not disputed.

Plant-A Insights Group has a strict no-pay-to-play policy. America’s Greatest Companies 2026 is based on independent research and unbiased data analysis. No applications.
